L01: What is Leadership Communication?
In the business world, leader is one of the most crucial persons who affect the success of the team.
In the business world, leader is one of the most crucial persons who affect the success of the team.
The group or organization carefully chooses leader to
guide and be in command of others. A leader must be able to communicate
effectively and have the skills to influence others to listen to what he/she is
saying. Having a good communication skill is not an easy task. A leader needs
to know how to develop effective communication which impacts on how the leader
guide, direct, motivate or inspire others in the organization.
When
individuals get ahead in business, he/she must be able to communicate, to make
sound decisions, and to get things done with and through people. The leader
also has to ensure that the communication is clear, context is understandable
and the right medium is chosen.
In this
chapter, we will get to know the leadership communication framework which will
improve leader’s skill to become more effective from leader’s core skills. In
the framework, the leader will learn to analyze the audiences and develop the
communication strategy combined with good writing and speaking skill. This
framework will also help the leader to master the skills at the core as well as
expand those skills in order to lead and manage the groups. Eventually, the
skills will enhance the successful delivery the messages.
Interestingly,
although the leader will have good communication skills, positive leadership
ethos is also very important to successfully develop effective communications
and influence others. Ethos can be described as the ability and the character
of the leader to persuade others and influence the audiences. The confidence,
the credibility, and the ability to induce others to listen to his/her
communications are a must. It is important that a leader knows how to build a
positive ethos and develop a good character which makes him/her more
persuasive. Positive ethos can affect leader’s success in delivering the
messages as well as induce the audiences to believe and trust what leader’s
saying. Although it may be difficult for a business leader to be perceived as
honest and trustworthy, after practicing, the leader will understand that the
ethos is very helpful and can be the most persuasive tool for leader to become
effective communicators.
1. What is the effective in communication?
We all know that communication is the exchange of
words between two or more people. It also includes aggressive listening,
non-verbal responses, effective facilitation and being direct in a way that
works. Such as effective communication does include Influences, Inspires,
Encourages and Motivates
Effective communication is communication that
works to make the point the communicator is trying to make. Truly effective
communicators enjoy tremendous influence and cooperation from those around
them.
2. How to
reduce communication misunderstanding?
In this case I would like to start from the
quality, intelligibility, and variety of the voice all affect understanding.
Quality refers to the overall impression the voice makes on others. Listeners
often infer from the voice whether the speaker is happy, sad, fearful, or
confident. Intelligibility or understandability depends on such things as
articulation, pronunciation, and grammatical correctness. Variety is the spice
of speaking. Rate, volume, force, pitch, and emphasis are all factors of
variety that influence understanding
However I think the eye contact, gestures, facial
expression are all action factors. When someone walks quickly out of the room
during a meeting or taps a pencil on the table during a conversation, leaders
may conclude that the person is in a hurry or is bored. These conclusions may
or may not be correct. If others twitch, or seem unsure while speaking we may
conclude that they are nervous when, in fact, they may not be
3. Which
way do you see that new technologies will affect leadership and leaders?
In my opinion I don’t think I don’t see
technologies affecting leaders, or people for that matter. What I do see are
good leaders achieving their goals by selecting the right tools (technology) to
achieve their goals. Good leaders focus upon their goals and then do what is
necessary to achieve it; they do not pick a technology and then try to achieve
some goal with it.
Leaders are change agents who guide their
followers onto new heights, while along the way; they develop and grow their
followers. A leader's two driving goals should be making the organization a
success and that if the leader should leave, then they have enough trained and
developed people to fulfill them.
